Early Voting Starts in Nashville Today
Voters in Metropolitan Nashville and Davidson County go the polls beginning Friday, July 13, to elect a new Mayor, Vice Mayor, and 40 member Council. Early Voting runs through July 28, with the actual election day on Thursday, August 2.
Next week, the Nashville GLBT Chamber of Commerce will host a special Mayoral Candidate Forum. It will be held on Wednesday, July 18, starting at 5:30 pm, in the Symphony Ballroom in the Loews Vanderbilt Plaza. Light appetizers will be provided along with a cash bar. There will be a straw poll conducted at the end of the forum. The Tennessee Transgender Political Coalition encourages all registered voters in Davidson County to attend the forum and to participate in the election. Nashville's GLBT community hopes to see enactment of a non discrimination ordinance that will cover sexual orientation and gender identity or expression.
Next Tuesday, July 17, there will be a special election in Memphis for House District 89. One candidate, Jeanne Richardson, is being supported by GLBT activists in Memphis. That same night, the Tennessee Transgender Political Coalition will host a Memphis screening of Citizen Lobbyist at 7pm in First Congregational Church, 1000 South Cooper Street. Admission is only $7.00.
Additional municipal elections are scheduled for Knoxville on September 25, and Memphis on October 4.
