Madison Gears Up for Bluegrass Festival

MADISON: “This year’s festival is going to be the premiere event that kicks off the Bluegrass music season for our Middle Tennessee area, and I’ve got a lineup that’s sure to please everyone from the most traditionalist to the more contemporary BG music lover.” These enthusiastic statements are being spoken by Lonnie Jones to anyone within listening range these days, as he gets preparations underway for the Second Annual Bluegrass Festival scheduled for Friday and Saturday, May 11 - 12 (in the field across from the Madison Station Senior Center, 301 Madison Street).

Already, Jones has top names in BG lined up to perform at the Second Annual Madison Bluegrass Festival: IIIrd Tyme Out, Anita Fisher Band with Roy Deaton, Foxfire Newgrass, Lonnie Jones and Hard Drive, Southbound, Now & Then, the Farewell Drifters and Piatt Family; that’s on Saturday, beginning at 12Noon, although the gates officially open at 10AM for jam sessions and vendor shopping. Before this on Friday, you get square dancing with Tommy Jackson, starting at 3PM, and local bands on display.

New to the festival this year is an extensive ‘side show’ featuring arts and crafts venders. The search is on for some of the most talented and ingenious artisans who would like to ‘display their wares.’ If you are interested, or you know someone who might want to be a part of this festival extravaganza, please contact Lonnie Jones at (615) 945-0656 or Shirley Jones at (615) 870-0508 for information regarding how to register for exhibit space. Jones is also offering advertising in the event program as an added benefit for businesses in this area, so call him to buy your ad now.

“We expect this year’s event to be a huge success!” claims Jones. “It will be the start of the Bluegrass festival season, a weather-friendly time of the year, and everyone who loves this type of music should be ready to cut loose after a winter season indoors! We’re ready for folks to come out and enjoy themselves, and we’re going to make sure that they do!”
