Sewanee Peace Banquet

Friends and members of the Cumberland Center for Justice and Peace are invited to our annual Awards Banquet to be held Friday, March 9, at 6:00 pm at the Sewanee Inn. The dinner will be honoring several members of our community who have worked for peace and social justice, and in serving the needs of those devastated by Hurricane Katrina. Those honored this year include: David and Daphne McCrary, owners of Platters restaurant in Cowan, for spending many weeks in Waveland, Mississippi preparing and serving meals to individuals and families affected by Hurricane Katrina; and Rosemary Puckett, an undergraduate student at the University, for her leadership role among students in opposing the Iraq war and galvanizing student support on social justice issues.

In addition to recognizing these individuals for their contributions, we will also have photographer and activist, Armand Richardson, to reflect on his experiences in New Orleans in the aftermath of Katrina. His presentation will include a slide show and talk about his experience during the flooding; his investigation afterwards into the cause of the flooding; and his current work traveling the world to present his findings and share the atrocity that has befallen his city. Armand was born in New Orleans with deep family roots in the city dating back to the early 1800’s.

The banquet will begin at 6:00 pm, with a main course provided. Those attending are encouraged to bring a side dish or dessert and may RSVP to 598-9989. We hope to see you there!
